I am trying to plant those seeds of doubt. but I can't believe how difficult it is. (This is dealing with my ex) She says that while the men who run the society may be imperfect, they run it with gods spirit, and that none of us know when he will enlighten us or what his designs are, so even if they are wrong about doctrines, that was just gods plan. :O

I think enough of a stink and grumbling was raised over this that they switched it back to the outskirts of the GVRD... it was in Abbotsford this year. Maybe I'm just naive though... I guess they just take the best rental deal they can get on an arena, and then they have more profit left over after donations.
Do you know why they announced it would be in Kamloops? They had the nerve to blame the publishers! They said that because people kept going to the vendors outside the Coliseum that the Coliseum insisted that it was obvious they should be allowed to run their stands inside, which means Jehovah says: Move it far far away, sinners!! lol

Have you read either of Hassan's books? If not, please do so.
Hassan? No I have not, what are they?
Never discuss doctrine. Your best tools are love and patience. Your goal is to empower them to think for themselves. Your goal is not to prove any specific, individual point of doctrine. Even if you prove a specific point, 'where else would they go'?
Funny you say that... I was talkingto my ex about the problems and lies of the society and her reply was "Find me something better." So I have a little hope I may be able to sway her... we'll see.

were you made to feel guilty if you missed a meeting / service ?
by man in black ingoing along with the last thread ( great subject matter) .
i'm sort of hitching along here.. we had a bookstudy at our home for several years, every week we were prepared, and we handled service arraingements every saturday morning, even with two young children.. one saturday morning, ( in the middle of winter) one son had a bad cold, and our furnace konked out around 8:15 am.. i was running around trying to get ready for service, calling a repair man, and help my wife get ready for service.. the group comes in at 9:00, and i'm on the phone talking to the repair man who wants to come out between 10-2.. so i'm not going out this morning, and i'm staying home with my sick son, wife and son #2 are going out in service.. conductor comes downstairs and looks at the furnace ( he is a school teacher, no mechanical experience at all, check out my earlier thread video under friends, page 5827 titled "elder makes a video,,,, this is the same guy ) and gives me the classic guilt trip because i'm not going out in service for at least an hour this morning.. i remember thinking just who is this guy, trying to make me feel bad because my family is #1, service is not my focus today.. after all of these years, i cannot help but think of this comment now :.
"nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent", e. roosevelt.

Guilty? Heck yeah! Although my step dad went further, he would pull me out of bed and throw me into my closet, yelling at me to put my suit on or I wouldn't be living there much longer if I didn't go to meetings... I was 16 or 17! Scary guy, he was 5`10`and 275 lbs... and you know, I went along with that... I thought, in accordance wit htheir teachings I had rebellious and lazy thoughts, so he was doing his best to break me of my sinul and devilish sleeping... :(

So let me set this question up. Sorry if its long!
Recently my brother-in-law posted a link to a story on Facebook: " We're seeing Rev 17:12,13 starting to be fulfilled!! Expect all the nations of the earth to be eager to hand over power to the United Nations... it really the only thing yet to happen before the fall of Babylon the Great." that was his precursor to the story he was linking to: " Obama places the US military under UN control via yidwithlid.blogspot.com
So likewise, a passionate attachment of one Nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite Nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest, in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former..."
As you can see, he had no problem linking to a crackpot political blogger... It is not too well known that I have faded away from the Borg, but even so, I had to post, knowing that all his Borg friends and family would see my comments. I just thought it was irresponsible of him to be posting a bloggers opinion as fulfilling major biblical prophecy. Am I wrong? Further he had previously posted another headline: "Scientist says evolution wrong, proves creation right" and when I went and checked out this "scientist" he was some crackpot Catholic guy who also taught in links on his web page that the fossil record was faked, the earth was only 6000 years old, hellfire and lots of other stuff like that. I had previously called him out on it, much to my delight other Borgs told him he shouldn't be posting things without knowing where they came from. Evidently he didn't learn, and posted this link. I told him he was posting a Blogger's opinion, further that the blogger was misinterpreting Obamas words for politcal reasons. He then posted other links with quotes from Republicans, I reminded him it was a NATO mission not a UN one and that the Republicans, while manipulating the statement as well, were not making the same statement he was making, they were two different issues. He proceeded to tell me that "I know you're not a witness (marking me for all to see and to somehow invalidate my view), but even you can't deny the US is Satans pawn. Don't blindly believe everything the government tells you" I told him not to treat me like I was tottering down some dark alley, while he was holding out a flashlight for me, and that he was the one blindly believing whatever he read on the internet, coming from political bloggers! Then he deleted all of the comments that called him out and finished by stating " there's a great many web pages with the same news information. I first read about this a couple weeks ago, on an entirely different site. Whether this guy is wacko or not, the actual news piece is for real."
Basically, how can you change their minds about things when it is so ingrained in them? I have tried to reason with my ex, pointing out many things I have learned off this site and she just rolls her eyes and says everybody knows these things and I'm trying to harp on un important things.... So frustrating and I wonder how you out there have reasoned with them, and any success?
Sorry for ranting but the more information I have learned the more upset I have gotten with the organization. My daughter is being raised in it still and I used to be ok with that but now it feels infuriating that she is being brainwashed... urgh I guess I have brought up more than one issue here, but I welcome any feedback.

This convention blows
by Anony Mous inseriously, half day in (already had an argument with the wife this morning about individuality in the organization in which she conceded that a lot of it is based on looks) and this is already getting on my nerves.
i'll post a rebuttal based on my annotations later in the week but one thing i got to get off my mind: saying the feminist movement (women going to work instead of staying home) and the diversity laws (allowing for homosexuality - but also religious freedom, racial discrimination etc.
) caused a lot of the problems in our world right from the stage.. there are less people here than last year - about 500 less..

A relative came home from the convention and immediately posted on Facebook: "Wow, what a weekend! Advertise, advertise, advertise!! The Kingdom of God!"
I had a pretty good lol... he definitely got the point of the convention, ahahaha!! Even though he isn't aware.

Or even better: 'That was so timely, they know just what we need at the right time!'

One year out
by WhatWasIThinking inthe last meeting i attended was the memorial last year.

since i didn't go to the memorial today, i'm considering it my one year anniversary of snapping out of my stupidity and regaining my freedom.

Hey WWIT, same situation here. Needless to say I just missed the Memorial for the first time in my 36 years... Congrats!
I still have friends and family that are very devout... I saw one of them post on Facebook today: "Our brothers in Bulgaria were attacked by mob last night at Memorial. Clearly Satan is very angry about the great shout of praise to Jehovah. The mob attacked our brothers and the kingdom hall. 5 were taken to hospital. The front door was wrecked by the time police arrived. 10 were arrested."
Oh man, a line like that would have rung so true in the past... now I can't believe anyone could read that and not giggle with the myopicness of it all. I posted in reply: " In Bulgaria, religious discrimination is pretty prevalent, the main Orthodox members have attacked/defaced/desecrate d: Jewish synagogues/schools, Protestant churches, Muslim mosques.... they discriminate equally across most religions, it seems."
And it was like no one saw what I wrote or commented on it and kept going on as before... *sighs*
